alpha,alpha-Difluorophosphonates, which are readily available from alkyl halides and diethyl difluoromethylphosphonate, undergo elimination of hydrogen fluoride using alkali metal alkoxides to provide alpha-fluorovinylphosphonates in high yields and E/Z selectivities.
