Význam lze odvodit ze sémantického modelu „ohnutý → křivý → neživý“. Hypotézu podporují staročeská slovesa usléci ,zahynout‘ a uslúčiti ,ztýrat‘. V rámci českého lexikálního systému však slovesa leknouti a leknouti se hodnotíme jako nepříbuzná, protože jejich vývoj probíhal zcela nezávisle. Description in English The author explains the origin of the Czech verb leknouti (it appears for the first time in the year 1596) ,to die (about fish)‘ on the basis of the radix *lenk-/*lonk- ,to bow‘, which is also common for the verb leknout se ,to get frightened‘. The meaning can be deduced from the semantic model „bent → crooked → lifeless/dead“. The hypothesis is supported by the Old Czech verbs usléci ,to die‘, uslúčiti ,to torment‘. On the other hand we interprete both verbs leknouti and leknouti se – from the viewpoint of the Czech lexical system – as two unrelated verbs because their development has run completely independently.
