Črtovú EI sme zisťovali dotazníkom SSRI a výkonovú EI dotazníkom STEU, kde respondent identifikuje emócie v interpersonálnych epizódach. Informácie o copingových stratégiách a zvládaní záťaže sme získali použitím škál copingu (Brief COPE), sebaúčinnosti a hodnotenia stresujúcich udalostí. Medzi študentmi a zdravotníckymi pracovníkmi sme zistili niektoré rozdiely. Description in English The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) represents an important positive factor in the area of coping. The aim of our paper is to verify this hypothesis and to find the role which EI plays in the choice of coping strategies. Data used in this research was received from 239 respondents (medical practitioners and undergraduates). Trait EI was measured by Schutte Self Report Inventory (SSRI) and performance EI by Situational Test of Emotional Understanding (STEU), which uses tasks identifying emotions in social problem episodes. Coping with stressful events are measured by short form of COPE – Brief COPE and by scales of self efficacy and evaluation of stressful events. The results revealed that emotional intelligence can predict several aspects of the coping process. Higher score of EI leads to diminish of avoidance. EI has also a moderate impact on acceptance and reformulation. Some differences between medical undergraduates and medical practitioners were yielded.
