Keywords : hybrid experimental-numerical method * ductility * deformation
Subject RIV: JL - Materials Fatigue, Friction Mechanics
The presented method combines experimental and numerical techniques for detailed study of behavior of ductile specimens in loading preceding failure. The experimental part of the method is based on simultaneous measurement of displacements on the specimen surface by the digital image correlation method and also on recording of the temperature field of the specimen, as the temperature field is an important variable influencing crack behavior. The displacements and temperatures are then combined in the finite elements model used for calculation of other relevant properties for description of the deformation process. The method is intended for evaluation of fracture mechanics criteria and for study of brittle to ductile transition of materials.
