AnnotationThe direct sparse solver with reordering is designed to solve very large linear equation systems obtained from FEM analysis in elastostatics. It uses a variant of Gaussian elimination featuring an effective and fast factorization of the coefficient matrix (i.e., the global stiffness matrix), which is stored in a custom sparse block format. The factorization is preceeded by an automatic reordering of the equations using the Approximate Minimum Degree ordering that considerably reduces both computational time and storage requirements of the solution. The program is implemented numerically as an independent module of the commercial system PMD (Package for Machine Design).
