Kniha přibližuje dějiny českého literárněvědného strukturalismu z perspektivy významu badatelské osobnosti Felixe Vodičky (1909–1974). Její ohnisko však není věnováno pouze Vodičkovi, ale podrobně dokumentuje vývoj české strukturální myšlenky od dvacátých let 20. století až do začátku let sedmdesátých. Osvětluje kořeny českého strukturalismu a přináší rovněž srovnání základních rozdílů v přístupu strukturalismu francouzského a českého. Nejedná se však o práci pouze historickou; svými analýzami a promýšlením některých klíčových otázek Pražské školy ukazuje tato publikace na možné podoby aktuálního zapojení strukturalistických návrhů do literární teorie a na roli, kterou v současném myšlení o literatuře mohou hrát. Ve svém oboru představuje kniha první takto rozsáhlou a podrobnou publikaci věnovanou aktuálnímu dědictví českého literárněvědného strukturalismu.

The book introduces the history of the Czech literary structuralism from the perspective of the significant role of Felix Vodička (1909-1947). Still it focuses not only on Vodička, but documents in detail the development of Czech structural thinking from the twenties of the 20th century to the beginning of the seventies. It illuminates the elements of the Czech structuralism and brings also a comparison of basic distinctions between Czech and French structural approach. Yet the monograph pursues not only historical intentions; in it's analyses nad in re-thinking of some crucial questions of the Prague school it presents possible forms of integration of the structural suggestions to literary theory and points out the role of these suggestions in contemporary literary studies. In it's field the book therefore represents the first thus extensive and detailed paper on the current heritage of Czech literary structuralism.
