AnnotationA marked decrease (cca60 %) of mitochondrial complex I activity (observed during the acute phase of seizures induced in immature rats by homocysteic acid) persists during long periods of survival (up to 5 weeks) following seizures. It is accompanied by significant increase of three mitochondrial markers of oxidative damage. The decrease of complex I activity was substantially reduced by treatment with selected free radical scavengers
