Promoters of the genes pheA2A1, pheR, catA catR responsible for phenol degradation were localized by revealing the transcriptional starts in R. erythropolis. Expression of pheA2A1, catABC and pheR was induced by phenol, whereas incomplete autorepression of catR ensured its low constant expression. Induction of the genes pheA2A1 and catABC by phenol was repressed by succinate, but not by glucose. PheR (AraC type) was shown to act as an activator of P-pheA. CatR (IclR type) functioned as a repressor of both P-catA and P-catR
