    The study analyzes the hitherto neglected historical dimension of the East Central European democratic dissidence’s political thought. Based on the example of Czech dissidents such as Jan Patočka, Petr Pithart and others it shows, that with a new political strategies based on Human Rights the anti-communist opposition adopted also a specific liberal nationalist vision of national-political community and concept of patriotism that, esp. towards the end of the 1980s, contradicted to some other aspects of the dissidents’ political language.
