AnnotationIn this paper, I develop a novel predator functional response that accounts for the observation that sometimes predator consumption rate may increase with increasing predator numbers or density (foraging facilitation). In addition, I analyze a predator-prey model that incorporates this functional response and show that impacts of foraging facilitation on predator-prey dynamics may vary. Foraging facilitation destabilizes predator-prey dynamics when it affects the encounter rate between predators and prey, while it might have a stabilizing effect if the predator handling time of prey is affected.
