During the excessive lateral rotor vibration the contact between the disc and the stationary part or between the rotor and the inner ring of an auxiliary bearing can occur in the rotor system supported by radial active magnetic bearings (AMBs). In the computational model are the radial AMBs and impacts incorporated by means of nonlinear force coupling. The discs and the stationary part are considered to be absolutely rigid except a small neighbourhood of the contact point. To the direct determination contact stiffness of the normal component of impact force a Hertz theory is applied. The numerical simulations of rotor supported by radial AMBs showed that both of the nonlinear vibration sources (radial AMBs and impacts) could be investigated together and that the impacts have considerable influence on vibration styles.
