Aza[5]helicene-like molecules are easily accessible from the commercially available bromopyridine. The key step of the whole reaction sequence is the thermodynamically controlled microwave-mediated cycloisomerization of triynes catalyzed by Co--complex, which provides virtually a single diastereoizomer.
