Příspěvek u příležitosti 200 let od prvního použití termínu "Balkánský poloostrov" německým geografem Johannem Augustem Zeunem nastiňuje genezi a další vývoj tohoto zeměpisného a historického pojmu až po současné interdisciplinární debaty o jeho oprávněnosti a nahrazování pojmu "Balkán" zdánlivě politicky korektnějším pojmenováním "Jihovýchodní Evropa."

The article deals with the 200th anniversary of the first use of the appelation "Balkan Peninsula" by German geographer Johann August Zeune. It outlines the genesis and subsequent development of the term until the present interdisciplinary debates about the usefulness of the term "Balkans" which has been gradually eclipsed by the seemingly politically more correct appelation "South Eastern Europe" in recent years.
