AnnotationThe research is focused on the function of a nuclear isoform of myosin molecular motor - nuclear myosin I (NM1). This nuclear motor was shown to be involved in transcription, chromatin remodelling and repositioning of transcriptionaly activated regions in the nucleoplasm. NM1 differs from its cytoplasmic variant myosin IC by a unique N-terminal extension of unknown function. We are interested in the structure of the motor domain of NM1 and the relation to the N-terminal domain as it could elucidate the specific properties of the molecule that allow it to perform its nuclear roles.
