AnnotationThe fecal SCFA concentration was higher in childhood patients (153.9 +/- 46.9 mmol/L) in comparison with healthy children (96.6 +/- 19.2 mmol/L; P < 0.05). According to that pH values were non-significantly lower in patients stool (6.78 +/- 0.75 vers. children 7.42 +/- 0.74; P < 0.17). Microbial population was screened in fecal samples and in duodenal biopsies with DGGE specific for total bacteria, Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria. Bacteria adhered to duodenal biopsies were not dominating in stool samples. More than 50 % of detected bacterial species were up to now uncultured strains.
