Using mtDNA variations and phylogenetic approach, the Croatian spined loaches from Danubian populations of C. elongatoides and its hybrids from rivers Kupa and Drava are related to the species included in the Cobitis s. str. group. whereas C. elongata and loaches from Adriatic watershed belong to "Bilineata" and "Elongata" clades within the Adriatic group. Within each clade, we found several sublineages with its specific historical origin. Allozyme analyses of the so called C. taenia complex revealed the presence of both C. elongatoides and its all-female triploid hybrids in the Danube basin of Croatia.

Fylogenetická studie variability mtDNA ukázala, že populace sekavcovitých ryb rodu Cobitis dunajského povodí v Chorvatsku, jmenovitě C. elongatoides a sympatričtí hybridi, jsou příbuzní a geneticky náleží k druhům skupiny "Cobitis sensu stricto". Druh C. elongata a sekavci z jadranských povodí náleží do kládů "Bilineata" a "Elongata" v rámci adriatické skupiny. V každé skupině jsme rozlišili několik dalších fylogenetických linií se specifickým historickým původem. Alozymové analýzy taxonů takzvaného "C. taenia complex" odhalily v dunajském povodí Chorvatska sympatrickou přítomnost druhu C. elongatoides a kryptických vše-samičích triploidních hybridů.
