AnnotationProton temperatures in the plasmasphere, as measured on Interball 2 and Magion 5 satellites, were compared to ion temperatures in ionosphere (DMSP satellites) along the magnetic field lines. These temperatures were found to be quite close everywhere except for the sector between noon and dusk (12 – 20 MLT). Apparently there is a heating source at high L in this sector. It was revealed that during a moderate magnetic storm development the nighttime ion temperature dropps in the storm main phase, but exceeds quiet time values in the storm recovery phase.
