AnnotationNovel amphiphilic HPMA copolymers designed as polymer carriers of anti-cancer drugs (e.g. doxorubicin) were synthesised. The copolymers formed supramolecular structures in aqueous environment and thus increase drug accumulation in solid tumours due to the EPR (enhanced permeability and retention) effect could be expected. In addition, copolymers contained biodegradable linkages between hydrophilic polymer chains and hydrophobic molecules in order to allow disassembling of the supramolecular structure after completing their drug carrier function and renal removal of copolymers from the body.
