Annotation
It has been shown experimentally and theoretically that the expected sharp onset of kinetic electron emission (KE threshold) is actually smeared out. This has been explained by a partial localization of the quasi-free target electrons due to their partially atomic-like wave functions because of the presence of the surface. This gives the explanation of the observed low energy electrons as a nonclassical effect.
