AnnotationIssues of language independent (writing system dependent) Automated Text-to-Speech (TTS) system design are discussed, both theoretical and practical ones. Based on this research, the Epos Speech System has been designed and implemented, and a fully functional configuration for the Czech and Slovak languages has been set up. The article partially covers the reflection of solutions found within Epos, and uses excerpts from the Czech configuration files to illustrate their advantages and disadvantages.
