UV-photoinduced optical second harmonic generation (PISHG) in silica glasses doped with aluminium oxide and erbium and ytterbium ions was investigated. The maximum output PISHG signal was observed at temperatures of about 4 K. Essential effect of the external electrostatic field and hydrostatic pressure on the PISHG was observed. The Yb ions were found to suppress the output PISHG. All experimental data were explained in terms of the ab initio molecular dynamics simulations.
