Unidirectional Nicalon reinforced composites with matrix derived from commercially available polymethylphenylsiloxane resin were prepared by pyrolysis of cured prepregs at 700 - 1000řC. The fracture surface analyses showed that the toughening effect was the highest in case of specimens pyrolyzed at 800řC. The subsequent impregnation and repeated pyrolysis caused an embrittlement reflected in a lowered strength and work to fracture.
