Physiology of antennal olfactory receptor neurons (ORN) to 27 floral and host-plant related volatiles showed that .I.M. sexta./I. males detect non-pheromonal stimuli by means of great number of sensitive ORNs with relatively narrow receptive range. Both males and females posses similar olfactory capacity to detect non-pheromonal odors.
