A selective hexa-fold monoalkylation of the malonester carbanion -CH(COOR)2 with hexakis(bromomethyl)benzene afforded the title compounds in high-yields. On subsequent replacement of the acid ŕ-hydrogens with bulkier substituents a series of sterically crowded derivatives was prepared for their conformation analyses.
