AnnotationCyclic voltammetry and spectroscopy (NMR, EPR, UV-Vis) was used to analyze reduction of the complexes [{M(C5Me5)}2(bpym)](PF6)2 with up to five electrons. In acetonitrile at room temperature, the dirhodium compound displays two sequential chloride-dissociative two-electroncathodic steps. At -15řC in DMF, the diiridium compound was found to be sufficiently inert towards dissociation; it is then reversibly reduced to an EPR-detactable radical cation [{IrCl(C5Me5)}2(bpym)]+.
