Cylindrical specimens of polycrystalline Inconel 713 LC have been cyclically strained under total strain control at 20, 500, 700 and 800 °C. Hardening softening curves were documented. Dislocation structure was studied with the technique of oriented foils in TEM. SEM and AFM were used to investigate surface relief topography. High amplitude cycling results in a pronounced hardening which was followed by marked softening at room temperature or tendency to it at 700 and 800 °C. Low amplitude cycling was characterized by the stable stress response. Surface slip markings and slip bands in the interior of grains were observed at all temperatures. Slip band lying along the {111} slip planes cut both channels and precipitates. Results of surface relief and dislocation structure study are used to discuss the stress response.
