The effect of exposure to acrylonitrile (ACN) on the expression of p53 and p21WAF1 proteins in blood serum of acrylonitrile-exposed workers from petrochemical industry was evaluated. The expression of both proteins was determined by ELISA immunoassay and western blotting. ACN induced also the expression of heat shock proteins hsp32 and hsp70 which may be sensitive biomarkers of environmental pollution.
