It was shown that while the majority of human leukemia and lymphoma cell lines synthesizes low molecular mass FGF-2, its release is generally insufficient. However, several cell lines display prerequisites to respond to the extracellular FGF-2 that could be produced by other cell types. Importantly, in a majority of cell lines was found concomitant expression of two potent antiapoptotic molecules, high molecular mass FGF-2 and FGF-2-interacting protein FIF. This opens the possibility of their participation in the regulation of apoptosis.
