Newborn rats were exposed to intermitent hypobaric hypoxia and their spatial memory was tested in the Morris water maze. Decreases in immunostaining density for neurofilaments, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes were found in the hippocampus and the typical organisation of neuronal and macroglial processes was lost.
