The longer repeated irradiation procedure (UVB rays) evokes a dramatic decrease in antioxidant enzymes in the corneal epithelium. The deficiency in antioxidant enzymes contributes to the oxidative damage to the anterior eye segment by UVB rays and reaactive oxygen species generated by them.
