Pressure and temperature variations in chromatographic retention of naphthalene, azulene, biphenyl, and acenaphthylene are employed to obtain the infinite-dilution partial molar properties of these solutes in supercritical carbon dioxide. In the present paper, the results obtained in the usual way compared with a more refined treatment that takes account of the pressure- and temperature-dependent dissolution of carbon dioxide in the stationary polymer (poly(dimethyl siloxane)) within the column.
