AnnotationThe decentralization dimension of the post-1989 public administration reforms in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland is examined, partly in a comparative perspectibve. The focus is on the geographic, historical, political and intellectual background of decentralization, on the expectations which the reforms have raised, on the substance of the reforms, their results and the problems they encountered. Both the local and regional level reforms are discussed, also as regards their "European", i.e. EU, context.
