This paper analyzes secondary school tracking in Czechoslovakia. Using multinomial logistic regression, it shows the effects of family background on the odds of making the transition to vocational, technical, or academic secondary schools. Various hypotheses about trends in educational reproduction and the effects of parental Communist Party membership on educational attainment are tested and the impact of 'communist affirmative action' on educational inequality is shown. Finally the effect of parental political status upon secondary school selection is examined.
