The paper has two specific aims : (l) to investigate an ability ofintracerebroventricularly (ICV) infused NAAG to induce neurodegene-ration in subregions of rat hippocampal formation and (2) to test theability of NMDA receptor antagonists and mGluR ligands to prevent theneurotoxic actions of NAAG. NAAG-induced neurodegeneration is lesssevere than that induced by quinolinate and can be inhibited by NMDAreceptor antagnonists and also by an mGluR II agoinst, DCG IV.
