Ve své práci Epistola de Incarnatione verbi Anselm odmítá Roscelinovy názory na povahu univerzálií. Anselm (jakožto pokračovatel peripatetické tradice a zejména jako následovník Boethia) tvrdí, že univerzálie skutečně existují, ale jejich povaha není materiální a jejich existence závisí na existenci individuí, ve kterých mají své bytí.

In his Epistola de Incarnatione verbi Anselm rejects Roscelin's view on the nature of universals. Anselm (as a follower of peripatetics tradition and mainly as a reader of Boethius) claims that universals really exist, but their nature is not material and their existence depends on the existence of Individuals in which they have their being.
