A collection of papers presented at the interdisciplinary seminar Functionalism in Sciences and Philosophy, held in November 3-5, 1998 in Prague. The twenty-three papers by Czech scientists and philosophers deal with the nature and application of the term "function" in the humanities as well as in the natural sciences.
