Diaeretus essigellae n. sp., an aphidiine parasitoid reared from Essigella californica (Essig) on Pinus spp. is described. The new species is distinguished from other Nerarctic aphidiines by its reduced fore wing venation and the absence of notauli, propodeal carinae and prongs on the female hypopygium. D. essigellae may be a useful biocontrol agent against E. californica in other countries.
