The work summarizes information about the giant magnetoimpedance(GMI) phenomenon. After a short historical review, an overview of GMI is given, Including a brief analysis of the phenomenology, a detailed theoretical framwork and the current topics of experimental developments in the field. Finally, the application of GMI in novel sensor devices is overiwed.
