A dominant plant of temperate nutrient-poor grasslands, Festuca rubra, possesses remarkable intraspecific differentiation both within and among localities. This differentiation concerns parameters that determine its spatial mobility and competitive ability, such as growth and tillering rate, sensitivity to red/far red light ratio and rhizome lenght and branching.
