Jestliže archeologický záznam je dostačující pro rekonstrukci odívání v mladém paleolitu, není tomu tak pro paleolit starý a střední. V těchto časných obdobách pravděpodobně stále hrály značnou roli fyziologické formy adaptace.

Whereas we have relatively sufficient archaeological evidence to reconstruct the Upper Paleolithic clothings, there is no record or analogy to do the same for the Lower and Middle Paleolithic. During these early periods, the physiological means of adaptations probably still plaied a major role.
