The paper deals with metallographic examinations of 14 iron objects (12 knives, one mortise knife and one sickle) found at the Premyslid stronghold in Stara Boleslav (Central Bohemia). Only one example of a steel blade was found, still welded together from several pieces. Roughly a quarter of the Stará Boleslav blades were made of iron. About three-quarters of the blades combine iron and steel, and two-thirds have quenched cutting edges. The assemblage also includes two pattern-welded knives, one of them with a nickel-enriched band in the back of its blade.
