Activity of the Mo catalyst increased after addition of Rh by a factor 12 in HDS of thiophene and after addition of Pt by a factor about 5 in HDN of pyridine. The synergy was influenced by two factors, by the state of the Mo phase before deposition of a noble metal, whether oxidic or sulfided, and by position of noble metal in the periodic system. Catalysts prepared by deposition of noble metals on a presulfided Mo possessed substantially higher activities than those prepared from an oxidic Mo catalyst. The addition of metals of the 2nd row (Rh,Ru and Pd)improved mainly HDS, while the metal of the 3rd row (Pt) improved more HDN Workplace Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals Contact Eva Jirsová, jirsova@icpf.cas.cz, Tel.: 220 390 227 Year of Publishing 2005
