The paper shows that the concept of the tetraplex appearance in the G-rich strand of the fragile X-chromosome repeats in vivo is very improbable. A hairpin of the motif, whose stability increases with the repeat length, rather is the probable structure responsible for the repeat expansion in genomes.

Práce ukazuje, že tvorba tetraplexu v řetězci DNA bohatém na guanin, který se vyskytuje ve fragilním místě chromozómu X, je in vivo velmi nepravděpodobná. Pravděpodobnou strukturou, odpovědnou za prodlužování této oblasti, je spíše vlásenka, jejíž stabilita vzrůstá s počtem opakování motivu.
