    Soils and lakes were sampled in 15 catchments in the alpine zone of the Tatra Mountains to evaluate the dependence of lake water chemistry on soil properties. Soil composition was spatially uniform and did not exhibit significant differences between the catchments or along the elevation gradient. Soil organic matter concentration was the parameter that most strongly and positively correlated with N, P, S, cation exchange capacity, exchangeable base cations, exchangeable acidity, and all biochemical parameters (C, N, and P in microbial biomass and C and N mineralisation rates). Lake water concentrations of organic C, N, and total P were positively correlated with the pool of soil organic matter in the catchments, while NO3- concentrations were negatively correlated. No correlations were found between C, N, and P concentrations in lakes and soil chemistry, indicating the dominant role of soil quantity over quality for surface water composition in the Tatra lakes.

    Vztah mezi složením půd a vody byl studován v 15 povodích taranských jezer s hlavním zaměřením na dusík, síru, fosfor, uhlík a bazické kationty (BC). Obsah organických látek byl určujícím parametrem obsahu N, P, S, BC, výměnné iontové kapacity a biochemických parametrů (C a N mineralizace, obsahy C, N a P v mikrobiální biomase). Koncentrace C, N a P v jezerech byly závislé na jejich množství v povodí (vztaženém na jednotku plochy) nikoliv na jejich koncentracích v půdě. Množství půdy (a nikoliv její kvalita, která zde má je malou variabilitu) je rozhodujícím parametrem pro obsah živin v tatranských jezerech.
