AnnotationIn the formation process of solvent-born crosslinked coating films, solvent type plays an important role. Four isomers of butyl acetate were used as film-forming solvents for two-component polyurethane coatings. The rate of evaporation, solvent retention, film drying time and hardness development were determined. Tertiary butyl acetate, the most volatile solvent, promotes fast drying but the film hardness is the worst. This is caused by the highest solvent retention.
