Annotation	The paper is focused on investigation of the static and dynamic characteristics of a DC actuator that is intended for extremely high currents and forces. Its field coil is wound by a massive copper conductor that is suitably cooled and its construction is equipped with a spring that quickly returns the movable part after switching off the field current. The methodology is illustrated on an example whose results are discussed
