The invasive growth-specific transcription factor Tec1p, the cell surface flocculin Flo11p, and the protein kinase Kss1p are dispensable for invasive growth of isw2Dalpha cells. On the other hand, the intact pheromone response pathway, including the G protein subunit Ste4p, the transcription factor Ste12p and the protein kinase Fus3p, is essential for induction of such an invasive growth. Moreover, the necessity of Fus3p differs the isw2 -induced invasive growth of alpha-cells from the known mating-type specific filamentous growth induced by a low concentration of pheromone.
