Dans ses textes consacrés a la problematique de la philosophie de l'histoire, Jan Patočka esquise des les années 30 des reflexions sur l'historicité de l'homme, du monde meme. Dans les années 50, dans le cadre du dit <platonisme négatif> cet auteur s'interoge du temps historique en tant que ce dernier s'ouvre a partir de l'avenir qui est comme ce qui est a venir characterisé par une alterité.

In his early philosophy of history, Jan Patočka rise reflected upon the historicity of the man, the historicity of the world itself, and in the 50 also upon the historicity of time as an alterity.

Jan Patočka se od počátku zabývá intenzivně problematikou dějin, které nechápe jako předmět jakési pouhé aplikované disciplíny filosofie. Zabývá se významem transcedence jako bytostného rysu lidského bytí. V 50. letech chápe transcedenci jako jinakost. Jednou ze skušeností transcedence jakožto absolutní jinakosti je zkušenost budoucího.
