AnnotationMammalian caspases, a family of intracellular cysteine protease, are engaged also for intracellular apoptotic machinery in the enamel knots. Since the primary enamel knot is considered as an important signalling centre in developing teeth, involvement of particular caspases in dental apoptosis was studied. Mandibular explant cultures were used to apply pharmaceutical inhibition of specific caspases and results were compared with knock-out findings.
