    Nine lakes above timber line in Retezat National Park were investigated for pelagic biota (in 2000 – 2001): bacterial abundances and biomasses, chlorophyll, and zooplankton species structure. In autumnal samples, bacterial abundances were in the range of 0.049 – 1.67 mill. per ml, bacterial mean cell volumes in the range of 0.083 – 0.176 um^3, bacterial biomasses expressed in carbon between 1.25 and 61.21 ug C per litre and chlorophyll between 0.70 to 7.18 ug per litre. In all lakes Daphnia rosea Sars and Chydorus sphaericus Mueller were found. Cladocerans prevailed above copepods in all lakes except of two. Cyclopids were found in all lakes but one, whereas diaptomids were absent in 4 lakes. Two lakes were investigated 4 times during ice-free season. In Gemenele lake, primary production of phytoplankton was measured in August 2001 and found rather high, corresponding to an oligo-mesotrophic lake.

    V 9 jezerech nad hranicí lesa v NP Retezat byly v letech 2000-2001 sledovány počty a biomasy pelagických baktérií, chlorofyl a druhová struktura zooplanktonu. Na podzim byly zjištěny počty baktérií v rozmezí 0.049 – 1.67 mil. na ml, průměrné buněčné objemy baktérií od 0.083 do 0.176 um^3, bakteriální uhlíkové biomasy od 1.25 do 61.21 ug C na litr a chlorofyl od 0.70 to 7.18 ug na litr. Ve všech jezerech se vyskytovali Daphnia rosea Sars a Chydorus sphaericus Müller. Perloočky převažovaly nad klanonožcii ve všech jezerech kromě dvou. Buchanky se vyskytovaly ve všech jezerech kromě jednoho, vznášivky chyběly ve 4 jezerech. 2 jezera byla sledována 4x během sezón bez ledu. V jezeře Gemenele byla v srpnu 2001 měřena primární fytoplanktonu, která dosahovala poměrně vysokých hodnot, srovnatelných s oligo-mesotrofními jezery.
